Lake Bunyonyi lies in the hills of southwestern Uganda near the town of Kabale. The lake is dotted with small islands and surrounded by terraced hillsides, and it is one of the most scenic places in the region.
Most visitors come to relax. You can paddle a canoe between the islands, watch birds, walk along the shore and enjoy the cooler air, since the lake sits at a higher altitude than Mbarara.
The drive from Mbarara takes about three hours, so it works well as an overnight trip, or as a stop on the way to Bwindi.
